Sabah & Mount Kinabalu Expedition
It was organised as a family trip to see Mount Kinabalu at its foot, and for the more adventurous, to scale it but the earthquake tragedy of June 5 turned it into a fundraising event. MASIS members raised a total of RM46,000 which was distributed equally between the families of the two deceased mountain guides, Valerian Joannes and Ricky Masirin, and the Mount Kinabalu Guides Association. The trip went ahead with a much smaller group visiting the family and friends of the victims where MASIS President Abraham Vergis and Management Committee Member, Shawn Lourdusamy, handed over the donation cheques to the recipients. MASIS’ Management Committee and Charities Head, Dato’ Elaine Teh, led the fundraising efforts including making a second trip on behalf of MASIS to Kota Kinabalu to hand over the second tranche of funds raised.
